Vintage Book - DROSTE CACAO

The confectionery business of Gerardus Johannes Droste was opened in Haarlem in the summer of 1863. Droste established a grand reputation in these early years and as a result, the first Droste factory of the firm G.J. Droste opened its doors on August 2nd 1890.

Around the year 1900 the illustration of the "nurse" appeared on Droste's cocoa tins. This is most probably invented by the commercial artist Jan (Johannes) Musset, who had been inspired by a pastel of the Swiss painter Jean Etienne Liotard "La serveuse de chocolat", also known as "La belle chocolatière". The illustration indicated the wholesome effect of chocolate milk and became inextricably bound with the name Droste.  (SOLD)

Arthur Blair describes this hobby from all angles, beginning with development of postal services, which existed for almost 6000 years before the world's first adhesive stamp, the famous Penny Black, appeared in 1840. He then writes about the production of stamps (and the rare and valuable misprints) before going into detail on the various branches of philately. Over 425 illustrations (165 in colour) reinforce the text and make this book an expert introduction to an absorbing hobby by a life-long enthusiast.

Vintage Can - White Oats Quaker

Quaker Oats was founded in 1901 by the merger of four oat mills.

The Quaker Mill Company of Ravenna, Ohio, which held the trademark on the Quaker name, and was founded by Henry Parsons Crowell, bought the bankrupt Quaker Oat Mill Company also in Ravenna, OH.He was holding the key positions between the general manager, president and chairman of the company from 1888 until late 1943.

The logo was painted by Haddon Sundblom in 1957. Although it is popularly believed that the man on the box is Province of Pennsylvania founder, namesake and Quaker William Penn, the company states that "The 'Quaker man' is not an actual person", but is instead a generic representation of a "man dressed in Quaker garb".

The company has no formal ties with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). When the company was being built up, Quaker businesspeople were known for their honesty (Truth is often considered a Quaker testimony). The Straight Dope writes "According to the good folks at Quaker Oats, the Quaker Man was America's first registered trademark for a breakfast cereal, his registration taking place on September 4th, 1877.

Jamu is traditional medicine in Indonesia. It is claimed to have originated in the Mataram Kingdom some 1300 years ago. Though heavily influenced by Ayurveda from India, Indonesia is a vast archipelago with numerous indigenous plants not found in India, and include plants similar to Australia beyond the Wallace Line. Jamu may vary from region to region, and often not written down, especially in remote areas of the country. Jamu is often distributed in the form of powder, pills, capsules, and drinking liquid. Jamu shops, which sell only ingredients or prepare the jamu on spot as required by buyers, as well as women roaming the street to sell jamu, is a commonly seen way to distribute jamu in Indonesia.

Djamu Djago Indonesian herbal medicine is a company founded by TK Suprana in 1918. Armed with the science of making herbal medicine from his mother, TK Suprana then drawn into the business of herbal medicine, particularly herbal medicine for men. Therefore, his name is called "Djamu Djago". Origin of herbal medicine companies Semarang City is increasingly handled flying since the third generation, Jaya Suprana.
